Deburring machines remove burrs, slag, oxide layers, and sharp edges from metal parts after cutting, punching, laser, plasma, or machining. Primary outcomes:
Safer edges and improved surface finish
Edge rounding up to 2 mm radius (typical)
Optional oxide removal, descaling, grinding, hairline finishing, or polishing
Compatible materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, titanium, and other ferrous/non‑ferrous metals
Sheet sizes: common widths 650–1350+ mm (24–51+ in), thicknesses from ~0.5 mm up to several inches (model‑dependent)
Wide‑belt / abrasive belt – primary burr removal and surfacing, often combined with brushes.
Brush‑based systems (disc, roller, rotary, multi‑disc) – excellent for edge rounding and uniform treatment of contours; modern designs use orbital or carousel brush heads.
Combination (multi‑stage) machines – belt + brushes in sequence for deburring, rounding, and finishing in one pass; widely used in sheet metal fabrication.
Double‑sided machines (e.g., ADV RW, ADV Y/S series) – process top and bottom simultaneously, eliminating flipping.
Wet vs. dry – dry units are simpler and lower‑cost for most steel; wet machines use coolant for better dust/spark control, heat management, and finer finishes (preferred for aluminium and high‑volume precision work).
Mass finishing (vibratory, centrifugal barrel/tumbler, high‑energy) – batch processing for small or complex parts, not flat sheets.
Specialised – tube/profile deburring, heavy‑duty slag removal (plasma/oxy‑fuel), robotic/CNC automated systems, or tool holders for machining centres.
Other methods (not the focus of this guide) include manual tools, thermal energy (TEM), and electrochemical deburring for internal features.
Modern machines offer:
1–4+ working stations
Vacuum or magnetic conveyor tables (vacuum for non‑ferrous, magnetic for steel)
Variable feed speed (e.g., 0.3–5+ m/min)
Automatic abrasive wear compensation
Dust extraction or wet filtration systems
Touch‑screen controls and modular designs for quick abrasive/media changes
